“Trend” Forecasting

Multiple articles from WGSN confidently predict that in 2025, Maximalism will celebrate individuality and self-expression through intricate blends and elaborate designs. This trend will empower fashion enthusiasts to boldly experiment with layering, mix textures, and combine statement pieces, resulting in unique and striking looks. It will focus on clean lines and the use of natural colors alongside bolder elements, all while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainability.

In my “Fragments of Melancholy” collection, I will showcase a captivating array of distressed fabrics featuring tarnished darks, greyed-off brights, neutrals, silvers, and metals that create stunning metallic transitions through innovative fabric manipulation.

Design Philosophy

I aimed to design a clothing line that encapsulates the five stages of grief—denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance highlighting the transformative and ultimately hopeful aspects of the grieving process. This approach underscores that even amidst profound loss and emotional upheaval, there is the potential for beauty, growth, and healing.

The design elements include: Pieces that transition in color and texture to signify emotional progression. Garments featuring layered or transformative components to symbolize the complexity of grief. A color palette that evolves from muted, somber tones to more vibrant hues.

The name of the fashion line is “Fragments of Melancholy” this fashion line serves not merely as clothing but as a narrative of emotional resilience, inspired by the understanding that grief is a deeply personal and non-linear journey.

Interior and Finishing Details

The images below showcase the interior and finishing details of garments from competitor brands. It’s important to notice how cleanly the seams are finished. Most high-end fashion brands utilize French seams or surged edges. The samples provided are from competitor brands, which I aspire to incorporate into my own fashion line.

Rolled edges, also known as narrow seams, are ideal for lightweight fabrics, offering a clean finish. While French seams are also suitable for lighter materials, they can be effectively used on thicker fabrics as well, resulting in a polished appearance.
